I’m talking, of course, about the Zagreb based performance collective BADco., and their performance LEAGUE OF TIME.

I could not help but being totally amazed by the talent and creativity in this pefromance. Using movement in space, and time, this incredible troop kept me entertained, amused and amazed for the full hour that it lasted. It left me content; still wanting more!

For one, the ensemble used a lot of props. A LOT. I have seen a few plays in my life, and a lot of inventive, wonderfull stuff. And this topped it all. Four superb characters/shapes, utilizing a wast floor, papers, latters, miniature models of all sorts of exelent stuff. And space.
This is a really well spent hour. And it has got something for all; wether you enjoy words, surealism, astronomy, movement, gadgets, lights or being amazed.
The performance moves in time.. and space.

The artistic core of the collective are Pravdan Devlahović, Ivana Ivković, Ana Kreitmeyer, Tomislav Medak, Goran Sergej Pristaš, Nikolina Pristaš and Zrinka Užbinec.
As a combination of four choreographer / dancers, two dramaturges and one philosopher, Badco. has, since its beginning in 2000, systematically focused on the research of protocols of performing, presenting and observing, by structuring its projects around diverse formal and perceptual relations and contexts. Reconfiguring established relations between performance and audience, challenging given perspectives and architectonics of performance, problematising of communicational structures – all of that makes BADco. an internationally significant artistic phenomenon and one of the most unique performance experiences.”

This week has been amazing so far!
I am working at the SEAS festival in Tromsø.
This is the SEAS concept:
“Black/North SEAS
Black/NorthSEAS is an arts festival with collaborative partners from the North and Black Sea regions. The central idea is to use contemporary art from these two areas, on opposite sides of Europe, to create collaborations and build lasting cultural connections. To unite art with other areas of society is an important element in this project.”

The Art Society in Tromsoe - the hub of the SEAS Festival
My role in the festival is as part of a Social Media project. Quite simply put, the project is to spread the word about the festival, through Social Media like Facebook, Twitter and blogs etc. We also take pictures, encourage people to take part and to communicate about what they experience through the festival, and share thoughts and opinions on the various performances, installations and exhibitions.

The project is delightful. And all the people involved in the Social Media task force are great. As a bonus, I get to experience all kinds of new and exciting things. For instance there are the workshops, art installations and of course the Seas Club concept (will try and blog about it in a bit).
So, this is my first blog post from the SEAS festival. Better late than never..
I’ll try to get a few more blogs posted from the festival during the next couple of days.

Søndag 14.juni hadde jeg premiere på mitt første bestillingsverk(!) som filmskaper; filmen “I et lite kapell mellom hav og fjell”. Visningen var en fin opplevelse og et verdig punktum (eller komma) for mitt arbeid i Fjordgård.
Sånn her gikk det til: Nanna E. Bertnsen i Rimfrost teaterensemble , ei god venninne av meg, hadde fått i oppdrag av Lenvik menighet å lage et opplegg for å aktivisere skoleelevene på Fjordgård skole (Senja), i forbindelse med fokusuka som menigheten skulle ha der. Nanna er skuespiller av legning, og tok fatt på oppgaven med bugnende kreativitet og pågangsmot. Hun tok kontakt med meg og spurte om jeg ville være med på prosjektet. Hun mente det ville gi det lille ekstra, om vi laget en film ut av opplevelsen og det som skjdde i Fjorgård denne uka. Og det ville jeg selvfølgelig svært gjerne være med på.
Planen var at Nanna skulle gjennomføre en rekke samlinger / workshops sammen med de ulike klassetrinnene i løpet av ei uke, og så sette det hele sammen til en ”Lysfest” i det lille kapellet i bygda, den påfølgende søndagen. Jeg var med på planleggingen, men når fokusuka kom i gang tok jeg meg til rette som tilnærmet ”flue på veggen” og forsøkte å fange reaksjonene og tankene som ungene og ungdommene gjorde seg rundt det de var med på.
Filmen skulle være en dokumentasjon av arbeidet som Nanna og representantene for menigheten la ned i prosjektet. Og samtidig skulle det være en film som kunne brukes til å promotere menigheten positivt i forhold til for eksempel kommunen og andre samarbeidspartnere. (Jeg var tidlig frempå og understreket at jeg selv ikke var kristen eller religiøs i tradisjonell forstand. Men det hadde ingen betydning for dem i forhold til min oppgave. Noe jeg jo var glad for.)
Jeg var rustet med mitt lille Canon HDV-kamera, med ekstra lys og lysutstyr. Og i dagene som kom fulgte jeg Nanna og ungene på aktiviteter i gymsalen, turer ute i klart vær og på lykteverksted i kapellet.
Resultatet ble en 18 minutter lang film som jeg mener viser både prosjektet og bygda Fjordgård på en riktig så fin og balansert måte. Det er ikke en på noen måte kritisk eller granskende film. Men det en kanskje kunne kalle en stemningsfull skildring av menneskene i Fjordgård og menighetens arbeid der.
Alt i alt er jeg svært fornøyd med gjennomføringen, og jeg ser ikke bort ifra at jeg vender tilbake til bygda ved en senere anledning for å se på andre aspekter ved samfunnet i Fjordgård.

Her om dagen så jeg en film som heter BRILLER (“Megane”, regi: Naoko Ogigami).

Den handler om ei kvinne, Taeko, som forsøker å komme litt vekk og slappe av. Hun finner frem til et sted hvor absolutt alt dreier seg om å slappe av og lite mer enn det… jo forresten.. det handler også om “shave ice” – som for noen år siden var en hit også her til lands. De to tingene dreier livet seg om. Og det kan kanskje være litt problematisk å slå seg til ro med at dagen ikke inneholder annet.. Dette er en veldig avslappende film.. uten å være kjedelig i det hele tatt. Vi møter fem karakterer og lærer dem å kjenne.. littigranne… et behaglig “out of your face” møte… hva det har med briller å gjøre.. ikke så mye.. og pittelitt, helt opplagt. Det går kanskje an å si at filmen handler om “kunsten å kunne skumre”, mmm deilig avlappende, mens du kanskje hekler en fint plagg med tilbudsgarn…
Hvordan skumrer man egentlig.. etter å ha sett denne filmen vil du vite litt mer om akkurat det, i alle fall. Men hvem er denne “Taeko” og hvem er de fire menneskene som hun møter her på dette merkelige stedet (som jeg har lyst å bo, by the way)? Det kan jeg ikke svare på.. Jeg vet det. Og du finner det ut selv, om du ser filmen. Filmen ble også vist på Tromsø Internasjonale Filmfestival, noe som i seg selv tilsier at det er en film av kvalitet og som er verdt å få med seg.
